The Bailey Drink

FROM THE FIRST DAY TO THE LAST DAY OF 2017

Deut. 11:12 a land for which the LORD your God cares; the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year.

I used to love having Dick Mills with us in our church when we ushered in a new year. Today’s verse was one Brother Mills often quoted. In context, this verse is talking about God’s special care over the land of Israel. Dick used to use it to apply to our individual lives. That is a very powerful application and it becomes very personal. Just think about it like this for a moment; the Lord has His eye on every day of your year. He is watching over January 1 all the way to December 31. He is watching over us for protection but also much more than that, He is watching over His promises to guarantee they come to pass in our lives. Jer. 1:12 “Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it.” The ESV Study Bible says this about this promise.
“The eyes of the LORD your God are always upon it suggests care and protection as well as bounty.”
John Gill says this about this verse.
“A land which the Lord thy God cares for… In a very particular and special manner; otherwise he has a general care of the whole world, and all the parts of it; for as the earth is his, and the fulness thereof, his providential care reaches everywhere; but as this spot was what he had chosen for his own residence, and the place of his worship, and for an habitation for his peculiar people; he exercised a more peculiar care over it, to make it fruitful, commodious, and pleasant; the eyes of the Lord thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year”
If the Lord has been faithful to watch over the land of Israel all of these years, how much more will He watch over you? After all, we are His sons and daughters and He is watching over every detail of our lives. As we step into 2017 you can be sure none of it will happen by chance. He has ordered and orchestrated each day for His glory and your good.
