The top shows Christians should watch — and those they should avoid — this fall, according to PTC

Several new television shows have made their way this fall, and the Parents Television Council (PTC) has rounded up the best three for Christians to watch and the worst three for them to avoid.

PTC’s head of Research Operations Christopher Gildemeister pre-screened the new offerings from major networks such as NBC, Fox, ABC and CBS. He admits that he still has a long way to go, but he tells The Christian Post that he is happy with the content he has checked thus far.

“This year is better than the last couple previous years have been,” he says, adding that the good shows are better than the ones that aired in past years, while the bad ones are not as bad as those in previous years.

For the past few years, TV shows feasted on the stories of serial killers, but he’s glad the trend has changed. “We’ve gotten away from that now,” Gildemeister says. He also points out that major TV networks “tend to be turning back more towards family comedies, light-hearted sitcoms.”

He notes that there are “some really good original dramas this year that prove — in spite of what some critics may say — you don’t have to have tons of sex and gore to tell an emotionally-involving dramatic story.”

At the top of the PTC’s list of must-watch TV shows is Fox’s “Pitch,” which is about a talented athlete named Ginny Baker (played by Kylie Bunbury) who was thrust into the limelight after she’s called up by the San Diego Padres to make her Major League debut.

“It’s a wonderful, wonderful drama about the first woman pitcher in Major League Baseball… a wonderful, wonderful story because it’s so very human,” says Gildemeister.

Coming in at number two is NBC’s “This Is Us,” which stars Mandy Moore and Mario Ventimiglia, who plays a married couple expecting triplets.

Number three is ABC’s “Designated Survivor,” which stars Keifer Sutherland. He plays Tom Kirkman, a lower-level Cabinet member who finds himself dealing with the overwhelming demands of the Oval Office.

On the flipside, Gildemeister deems Fox’s “Son of Zorn” as the worst show this fall, followed by ABC’s “American Housewife” and CBS’ “Bull.”
