Colorado College Student Charged After Using Skewer to Forcibly Abort Girlfriend’s Baby

almCOLORADO SPRINGS, Co. — A Saudi man attending college in the United States on a student VISA has been charged with unlawful termination of a pregnancy and sexual assault after he allegedly used a skewer to forcibly abort the child his girlfriend was carrying.

Ahmed Almesbahi, 23, is a student at University of Colorado Colorado Springs and studies mechanical engineering. In May, his girlfriend, a Kazakh immigrant, contacted police to state that she had been assaulted by Almesbahi in August 2015 and the incident resulted in the death of her unborn child.

According to The Gazette, police obtained evidence that the woman had been pregnant that year and were provided with a cell phone photograph of the aborted baby, which was expelled from her body in a mall restroom.

Police state that he had told his girlfriend that “his father would kill him unless we got rid of the pregnancy.” The woman states that the two had married, but Almesbahi denies that the two are wed.

Almesbahi is accused of using a shishkebab skewer to forcibly abort their unborn child. He was arrested on Thursday on charges of sexual assault, unlawful termination of pregnancy, kidnapping, intimidating a witness and menacing.

Police stated that the woman “has been very hesitant to participate at times during this investigation because of fear of getting Mr. Almesbahi into trouble.”

Almesbahi is free on $150,000 bond, but has been expelled from the university.

“Because of the severity of charges against him, he is excluded from the UCCS campus until further notice,” Tom Hutton, a spokesman for the University of Colorado, said in a statement. “The case is being handled by the Colorado Springs Police Department and all inquiries should be directed to the department.”

As previously reported, last month, a Tennessee man was arrested after he allegedly beat his girlfriend for refusing to obtain an abortion.

According to reports, Juan Lee, 24, was sitting in the car with his pregnant girlfriend when he told her that she needed to do away with their baby. The woman responded that the matter was not up to him, and got out of the car.

Lee is accused of then striking and choking his girlfriend, and pulling her back into the vehicle.

He drove off, but pulled over again and continued beating her. The woman, whose name has not been released, stated that Lee kicked her in the head while she was on the ground.

She reported the incident to police, who arrested Lee and charged him with aggravated assault.

In 2014, Christian Ferdinand, now 24, was convicted of second degree murder after he allegedly admitted to killing his teenage girlfriend because she told him that she was pregnant and refused his demand to abort.

Last year, now 44-year-old Joshua Woodward, the owner of the restaurant Table 8, was sentenced to nine years behind bars for slipping his girlfriend an abortion drug, resulting in the death of their unborn child.
