Billy Graham Addresses ‘Part-Time Christians’: Make Certain of Your Commitment to Christ

Can people really consider themselves as “semi-Christian” or “part-time Christian”? One person seems to think so. Even though he believes in Jesus Christ and wants to follow Him, he is unable to do so because he gets involved in things that are wrong and starts to act like a non-believer.

But world-renowned evangelist Billy Graham, who just celebrated his 98th birthday, said it’s not possible for people to be “semi-Christian” or “part-time Christian.” Once people come to Christ, God adopts them into His family, and they become His children forever.

“Think of it this way. When you were born, you became part of a family — and nothing can ever change that,” he wrote on his website. “Even after you grow up and leave home and establish your own family, you still are part of that original family. And even if you become alienated from your family for some reason and never want anything more to do with them, you’ll still be part of that family.”

God’s family is the same way. But in a far greater way, God does not turn His back on His children even if they turn their backs on Him. The Bible verse Galatians 3:26 said so: “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith.”

For half-hearted Christians, Graham has this message to share: “Make certain of your commitment to Jesus Christ. Then when temptations come, remember how much He loves you, and what it cost Him to make your salvation possible.”

Graham also recommended that people let their faith grow every day by reading the Bible. If Christians have one foot in and one foot out of their faith, they become weak and vulnerable, and the devil will surely take advantage of that. Graham then shared the Bible passage James 4:7-8: “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you.”
