‘You Don’t Have to Like Her’: Oprah Winfrey Endorses Clinton for President on T.D. Jakes Show

jakes-compressedTalk show host Oprah Winfrey recently appeared on the “T.D. Jakes Show,” where she urged viewers to vote for Hillary Clinton, stating that “you don’t have to like her” to vote for her.

During the broadcast, Jakes, leader of the Potter’s House megachurch in Dallas, Texas, asked Winfrey how the country can be unified rather than divided.

“We have focused so much on what divides us, rather than what unites us,” he said. “You brought all types of people together that normally would not be. How are we going to get that back in this country?”

Winfrey replied by praising Jakes for his television program on the OWN Network, opining that there is no platform for “public discourse” about the issues. She also divulged why she hasn’t been outspoken herself.

“The reason why I haven’t been vocal, other than saying ‘I’m with her,’ is because I didn’t know what to say that could actually pierce through all the noise and the chaos and the disgusting vitriol that’s going on and actually be heard,” she said on the broadcast, which is set to air on national television on Thursday.

“It’s scary,” Jakes replied. “At a time that leadership is so critical in our country…”

Winfrey interjected that Clinton is the only way to go.

“But there really is no choice, people,” she said, eliciting agreement from Jakes.

“All the people sitting around talking about they can’t decide,” Winfrey continued, being met with laughter from Jakes and the audience.

She contended that Americans don’t have to particularly like Clinton to vote for her.

“I hear this all the time. You get into conversations—and there’s not a person in this room who hasn’t been in this same conversation—where people say, ‘I just don’t know if I like her,’” Winfrey said. “She’s not coming over to your house! You don’t have to like her. Do you like this country?”

“I hear you,” Jakes remarked.

“Do you like this country? You better get out there and vote,” she proclaimed. “Do you like the country? Do you like freedom and liberty? Do you like this country? Okay. Do you like democracy or do you want a demagogue?”

Jakes then opined that he “can’t top” Winfrey’s remarks.

However, some have strongly stood against Clinton, noting that her pro-homosexual, pro-abortion beliefs and policies run contrary to the word of God.

“If a church member asks in 2016 if I can support Hillary Clinton, I can unequivocally respond, ‘Not in this lifetime,’” writes Bryan Ridenour on his blog “America, Look Up.” “We slaughter over one million babies per year in the womb. The number’s staggering. Are Christians supposed to remain mum about this tragic court-approved holocaust? Is God pleased if we just look the other way?”

“I do not hate the current president or Hillary Clinton, or anyone else for that matter. However, I despise policies and ‘progress’ pushing us ever closer to the precipice of the judging Hand of God,” he said. “If we vote for leaders who support abortion on demand, then we essentially hold the surgical knife that strips life from the womb. If we vote for leaders who support and champion gay marriage, we in effect officiate at their ceremonies. God holds us accountable for what we do behind the voting booth curtain.”
