In Huge Upset, Wisconsin Pro-Life Senator Ron Johnson Defeats Pro-Abortion Ex-Sen. Russ Feingold

In a huge upset in Wisconsin, pro-life Senator Ron Johnson (R) defeated pro-abortion former Senator Russ Feingold (D).

Senator Johnson has a strong pro-life voting record. In contrast, Feingold supports the current policy of abortion on demand, and voted against the partial-birth abortion ban every chance he got. Feingold is also endorsed by Planned Parenthood, the nation’s leading abortion provider.

Before the election, National Right to Life’s Karen Cross talked about the candidates:

Ron Johnson is pro-life. He opposes abortion on demand, and supports protection for unborn children. He has maintained a 100 percent pro-life voting record during his entire term in the U.S. Senate.

Ron Johnson co-sponsored and voted to advance the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36), legislation to protect unborn children who can feel pain by prohibiting abortion at 20 weeks, a point by which the unborn child is capable of experiencing great pain when being killed by dismemberment or other late abortion methods.

In contrast, Russ Feingold supports a policy of abortion on demand, which allows abortion for any reason.

Russ Feingold voted to keep partial-birth abortion legal, and he voted to endorse Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion on demand (Roll Call No. 48, 3/12/03).

Ron Johnson opposes the use of tax dollars to pay for abortion. In contrast, Russ Feingold voted to spend federal funds on health plans that pay for abortion on demand (Roll Call No. 369, 12/8/09).

Ron Johnson supports requiring an abortionist to notify a parent before performing an abortion on a minor girl who has crossed state lines to obtain the abortion (Roll Call No. 64, 3/22/13). Russ Feingold voted to allow minor daughters to be taken across state lines for secret abortions, without parental notice or consent (Roll Call No. 263, 9/30/06).

Ron Johnson is a co-sponsor of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (S. 2066), a bill to provide legal protection for babies who survive abortions. Russ Feingold said that when a baby is born alive during an abortion, it should be up to the woman (with advice from the abortion doctor) to decide whether the baby should be killed.

Ron Johnson voted to repeal Obamacare, including the provision that has resulted in federal funding of about 1,000 health plans that pay for elective abortion. He is committed to reversing the abortion-expanding and rationing effects of that law. In contrast, Russ Feingold voted to enact Obamacare, which provides government funding for insurance plans that pay for abortion on demand, and imposes rationing of lifesaving medical care.
