A lack of patients has forced the Planned Parenthood facility in Muncie, Indiana to officially shut its doors today, The Star Press reported. This is one of six Planned Parenthood Indiana locations that are closing in 2016.
According to Betty Cockrum, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, this is a common trend across the United States. She explained that advances in medical technology make frequent visits to the facility unnecessary. She also pointed out that after emergency contraception became available over-the-counter, her abortion chain had a 7,000-person drop in traffic.
Cockrum said: “There are significant changes in the provision of reproductive health care, and those are to be celebrated, but they’ve had an impact on our numbers in business. That causes some locations not to be sustain.”
The Planned Parenthood officials said they are referring their patients to a nearby facility, Open Door Family Planning.
The Muncie Planned Parenthood isn’t an anomaly. There are many Planned Parenthoods and other abortion clinics that are closing. Some merge into nearby clinics, and others have closed completely. In May, LifeNews reported a Planned Parenthood in Iowa shut its doors.

The Iowa abortion facility said it did not have enough business to keep operating, according to KWWL 7 News. The Planned Parenthood closed after operating at that location for eight years, the report states.
“This is a victory for women and their unborn children,” Marian Boureck, executive director of the Dubuque County Right to Life, told the NBC affiliate. “We stood here every hour that this facility was open for business, to show the women that we care, they are not alone.”
Boureck said more than 20 women chose life for their unborn babies after being offered positive, life-affirming alternatives to abortion.
Planned Parenthood officials said they closed the Dubuque facility because its patient numbers were low. However, officials said they will expand hours at the Cedar Rapids abortion clinic to accommodate an “unmet demand.”
Although it is encouraging to hear that facilities that caused so much pain are closing, Planned Parenthood continues to fight for radical abortion laws and the ability to continue abortions. This emphasizes the importance of continuing to defend the unborn.
