Jihadis with the barbaric Islamic group ISIS released a gruesome video this past week showing yet another twisted way that ISIS has devised to execute prisoners: hanging them from meat hooks at a slaughterhouse.
According to reports, the execution took place in Deir ez-Zor, Syria and involved approximately two dozen prisoners who were accused of being spies for the U.S. coalition against ISIS. The footage of their killing was released the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha, which commemorates Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son (Muslims believe it was Ishmael on the altar while Scripture states it was Isaac).
“In some traditionally Muslim countries, families or groups of families may purchase an animal known as udhiya, usually a goat or sheep, to sacrifice,” online summaries of the holiday explain. “In these countries, groups of people may purchase a whole carcass from a butcher or slaughterhouse and divide it amongst themselves or just buy generous portions of meat for a communal meal on Eid-al-Adha.”
In the ISIS footage, instead of animals, human prisoners were hung upside down on meat hooks at a Syrian slaughterhouse and then had their throats slit like livestock. Their blood was drained down grates as if in a ceremonial ritual.
Christian News Network has chosen not to show the video, which the group Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently has warned should not be seen by any human. Founder Abu Mohammed characterized the gruesome footage as “the worst video we saw,” commenting that Daesh had slaughtered the men “like sheep.”
The organization has posted stills from the footage, which show prisoners dressed in orange jumpsuits, their hands tied behind their back. One photograph shows a masked member of ISIS carrying two prisoners—one on each arm—to their death. Another shows an unmasked man brandishing a knife.
In addition to footage of the executions, the 12-minute video also reportedly features scenes from the film “Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation,” which relate to spies.
As previously reported, just last month it was reported that ISIS had executed prisoners by boiling them in tar.
“ISIS executed six persons in Mosul for collaborating with Nineveh Operations Command. The death sentence was issued [in an] ISIS Sharia Court,” Iraqi News reported. “The six persons were placed inside tanks containing boiling tar and the execution was carried out in one of ISIS headquarters at al-Shora.”
Iraqi News also advised in May that ISIS had executed spies by lowering them into a vat of acid.
“ISIS put the citizens in a large tub containing nitric acid inside one of its headquarters,” a source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the outlet. “ISIS members tied each person with a rope and lowered him in the tub, which contains nitric acid, till the victims organs dissolve.”
The terrorist organization has become known for its alarming videos demonstrating its invention of new depraved ways to kill. Last year, ISIS released footage of men being locked inside of a cage and then lowered into what appears to be a murky swimming pool, while a separate group had explosives tied around their necks, which were then detonated. Another video showed a prisoner affixed to a pole, who then had his right hand and left foot cut off with a hunting knife.
As previously reported, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) released a report earlier this year outlining the cruel punishments that Iraqis have suffered at the hands of ISIS.
“During the reporting period, ISIL killed and abducted scores of civilians, often in a targeted manner,” the groups outlined. “Victims include those perceived to be opposed to ISIL ideology and rule; persons affiliated with the government, such as former Iraqi security forces (ISF), police officers, former public officials and electoral workers; professionals, such as doctors and lawyers; journalists; and tribal and religious leaders.”
Some men were shot in the head, some were placed in a cage and drowned under water, some were instructed to lie down on the ground as a bulldozer was run over them, some were blown up with explosives and some were hung from power lines or at city entrances after being killed to deter others from opposing ISIS.
“ISIL also imposed cruel and inhuman punishments, including on minors, in areas under its control,” the report said. “Such a case occurred on 2 September, when ISIL cut off the hand of a boy aged around 13 years in the Bab al-Tob market, centre of Mosul, reportedly after accusing him of theft.”
The UN also found that sexual slavery and sexual abuse of women and children remains an ongoing problem in the nation, with an estimated 3,500 civilians currently being held in slavery by ISIS.
