JOY IN THE HOUSE

Is. 55:1, 2 – “Ho! Everyone who thirsts,
Come to the waters;

And you who have no money,

Come, buy and eat.

Yes, come, buy wine and milk

Without money and without price.

Why do you spend money for what is not bread,

And your wages for what does not satisfy?

Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,

And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
I have to laugh at my first impression of the laughter in revival meetings in 1994. I had never seen anything like that before, I never associated laughing out loud with church. I had been under the persuasion that somehow revival would be connected to repentance and tears, it wasn’t until I got a real good dose of The Holy Spirit did I begin to understand. You see, the Apostle Paul taught us in Ephesians 1:14 that the Holy Spirit is our foretaste of heaven. If I remember correctly there are no more tears in heaven. As a matter of fact, David said that God sits on His throne and laughs. Heaven is the happiest of all places. The atmosphere of heaven is the Holy Spirit Himself. He is characterized by love, joy, and peace. Just as there is no hatred in heaven and no strife, there is also no sadness. It makes sense that the heavenly deposit we receive called the baptism with the Spirit is totally saturated with joy. After all, the baptism with the Spirit is our first taste of our heavenly inheritance. Here are some comments from Jonathan Edwards about this joy in heaven characterized by a feast of joy.

“Feasts are made upon joyful occasions and for the manifestations of joy. Ecclesiastes 10:19, “A feast is made for laughter.” Christians, in the participation and communion of gospel benefits, have joy unspeakable and full of glory, a sweeter delight than any this world affords. We are invited in that fore-cited place, Isaiah 55:1–2, to come, that our souls may delight themselves in fatness.”
So let’s go to the Father’s house and delight ourselves in His joy. I think all of us are in for a really big surprise when we finally do get to heaven. I think the radical nature of the joyful atmosphere will be beyond our greatest dreams. Heaven is not only a world of love it is also a world of joy. The good news is that some of that joy is available for us right now.
