A Global Update on Theological Famine Relief

“I brought a Spanish [book set] for pastors a couple of weeks ago, and two pastors read the whole set in 48 hours and went on and on about the wisdom they gained.”

Of the many joys involved in the work of global resourcing for The Gospel Coalition, one of the greatest is to hear how books are influencing church leaders around the world.

So far this year, TGC International Outreach (TGC IO) has distributed more than 106,000 books in 74 countries and 20 languages, through more than 300 distribution partners.

Below are some photos, stories, and an update on the latest resources now available. Your prayers and generosity help make this possible. And if you are engaged in global missions, we invite you to join us in equipping church leaders in Africa, Asia, South America, and Europe.

From Cambodia

“Right now, less than 3 percent of the population in Cambodia is Christian. The church and its pastors were all but destroyed during the genocidal Khmer Rouge reign from 1975 to 1979. The nation is now at a crossroads between its difficult past and the future, which presents an unprecedented opportunity to get the gospel into an environment that was resistant for centuries.

“By strategically training pastors and students in scriptural theology, giving them practical knowledge to plant and sustain churches, and countering false theologies (e.g., prosperity; animism; works-based merit), we hope to see the church strengthened. We want to see indigenous Christians live out the Great Commission among their own people.” — Elizabeth

From Equatorial Guinea

“Our aim in this land is toward more effective church ministry and a deeper grasp of local church discipleship. Because wrong ideas of power and ministries of deliverance distract so many local pastors, deep-rooted discipleship often suffers. The Trellis and the Vine is a much-needed resource within the Christian community of Equatorial Guinea. Right now, there is no functioning Christian bookstore in the country, so these resources will be treated like gold.” — Jason

From Uganda

“We hope to see our supported pastors grow in their theological depth and preaching precision. We also hope resources provided by TGC IO will equip Ugandan pastors for the work of discipleship that goes beyond seeking professions of faith. We hope the books will help them give more attention to Christian discipleship than to the number of professions of faith at evangelistic crusades, even though we praise God for every true conversion.” — Kevin

From the Dominican Republic

“The Dominican church has tremendous passion for the Word of God but lacks theological and leadership guidance. Our books will train leaders to teach other leaders. I brought a Spanish-speaking set for pastors a couple of weeks ago; two of them read the whole set in 48 hours and went on and on about the wisdom they gained.” — Stephanie
