Does God Move in Mysterious Ways? Here’s Why the Answer Is Both ‘Yes’ and ‘No’

Many believe that God moves in mysterious ways. Actually, there's no Bible verse that directly says that, and the truth is that it's both right and wrong. Let me explain.

The word mysterious means "difficult … to understand, explain, or identify." Based on this definition, God's ways become both mysterious and not mysterious to us in some ways, and the Bible clearly explains how. Read on to know how.

Why God's Ways Are Mysterious, in a Sense

Humans have limited understanding and reasoning, more so compared to God. Read what Isaiah 55:8-9 says:

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts."

God's ways prove to be very different from ours, and in that sense many consider His ways as "mysterious."

But His ways aren't really mysterious. We just have to know Him.

Why God's Ways Are Not Mysterious

Friends, despite our inability to perfectly comprehend or explain God's ways, the truth is that God isn't actually someone who would leave His people in the dark in regards to His plans and will. Consider what Amos 3:7 tells us:

"Indeed, the Sovereign Lord never does anything until He reveals His plans to His servants the prophets."

He did this to Abraham before He judged Sodom and Gomorrah. He spoke to Samuel before the latter could anoint Saul and David as kings of Israel, each in their own time. He talks to people to let them know of His plans.

What about us? He spoke to us through His Son Jesus Christ, and has chosen to reveal Himself to us, showing us His loving kindness through Christ's death on the cross.

God Wants to Be Known

God has chosen to reveal Himself to all men. He did mighty works in times past, spoke to men through His prophets, and even sent His one and only begotten Son to show us His face. God surely loves revealing Himself to all men.

God has always spoken to men, telling us of His plans. His very nature and character is seen in the Bible; His will is clearly stated in His Word; His plans for the lives of all men simply are explained through the inspired Word of God; and His promises are there for all of us to read, claim and believe.

Friends, God doesn't move in mysterious ways. In fact, He deposited His Spirit in us and calls us His children, simply because He wants a relationship with us. And just like any relationship, we just have to seek Him and know Him for us to know what He wants to do. Think about Proverbs 25:2 and follow it:

"It is God's privilege to conceal things and the king's privilege to discover them."
