Dolly Parton says Hillary Clinton might be a good president — but denies endorsing her

Popular country singer Dolly Parton—known for hit singles such as “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You”—appeared to have endorsed Democratic presidential bet Hillary Clinton when she said America would benefit under a female presidency.

“Well, I think that that would be wonderful. Hillary might make as good a president as anybody ever has. I think no matter if it’s Hillary or Donald Trump, we’re gonna be plagued with PMS either way — presidential mood swings! But I personally think a woman would do a great job. I think Hillary’s very qualified. So if she gets it, I’ll certainly be behind her,” Parton said during an interview with The New York Times.

However, Parton quickly clarified that she is not actually endorsing Clinton and that she simply answered when a reporter asked her, “How do you feel about a female presidential nominee?”

“This morning while I was watching the news, I saw many reports that I had endorsed Hillary Clinton. My comment about supporting a woman in the White House was taken out of context. I have not endorsed Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump,” Parton said in a statement,

Parton added that she does not want to get politically involved. “But if I am, I might as well just run myself because I’ve got the hair for it – it’s huge – and they could always use more boobs in the race,” she jokingly said.

Parton grew up in a Christian home, and her faith has played a pivotal role in her songs. She earlier told CBN News that her childhood memories are very vivid, and many of the things she learned from her family and church still impact her perspective and music to this day.

“I keep all that stuff very close to my heart. I grew up knowing that Jesus loves me. And I knew that through God all things were possible. I grew up with those things that we just heard all the time. My grandfather was a really good preacher,” she said.
