Having A Hard Time Moving On From Failures? Here’s Something For You

Are you the type to bash yourself when you fail at something? You commit to do this thing, but you fail. You say you will do this, but you don’t. The ending is a scene where you continually scold and bash yourself for failing, or even trying. Honestly, it’s very frustrating.

Worse, you end up carrying your failures and label yourself with them — as if your identity comes from all the wrong things that you’ve ever done. If you’re that person, I have an encouragement for you: We all have hope.

God Loves To Fix Things

Friends, God loves to take the broken and failed pieces of our lives so that He can make them whole again. He is there when we attempt to do great things. He is there when we fail at these attempts. He is also there when we sit down, hurting ourselves in shame. Yes, He is still there, and is totally committed to seeing us rise from where we fell.

Consider what David said about the Lord’s presence in Psalm 139:7-8,

“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.”

No matter where we are and no matter what we do, God is there. Here are some things we should believe in our heart and keep in our minds about God’s abiding presence.

1. God Is With You Before You Did What You Did

Psalm 139:16 says, “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”

Before we lived today, God saw it already. Before you failed an undertaking, God saw it already. He was there before you were. He understands what happened, and you can trust Him for that.

2. God Was Watching You When You Failed

Imagine a scene where a boy in grade school joined the baseball club. During a game, his dad was watching. Because of this, the boy wanted to do his best and hit a home run. Sadly, he never even hit a ball pitched at him. All of this happened while his dad was watching.

It’s very likely that the boy will feel ashamed of his poor performance in the game. His dad, however, remains proud of his son for trying his best.

In the same way, God was watching you when you failed that attempt. Even if you failed, if you were doing what was right in the sight of God, the failure doesn’t matter that much. What matters is that you did what pleased God.

3. God Will Be There To Help You Rise Up

Psalm 3:3 says of God, “But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.”

Indeed, God is the one who lifts our heads. When we are deep in the quicksand of failure, God throws a line to rescue and pull us up to Him. My friend, Christ has overcome all of the enemy’s tactics. We can overcome in Him. No matter what we face, we can choose to take the high road, looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.

Break free from the downward spiral of self-condemnation. Be free in the love that God has given in Christ.
