Here’s how you can be sure that God knows how to help you

Oftentimes we run to the Lord God for help when we are in need. We approach Him and tell Him what we think we need, what we desire to achieve, and how we want Him to help us. Some of us, however, are unable to come to Him with all such requests.

It’s simply because we don’t know what kind of help we need. Yet despite the fact that we don’t know what to ask God for, He does know how to help us, and will help us when we yield to Him. Isn’t that encouraging?

Here’s how you can be sure that the Lord God, who is our ever-present help in time of need, perfectly knows how to help us.

1. He knows us better than we know ourselves

God knows us perfectly well, even beyond our knowledge of ourselves. We could take all kinds of psychological evaluation tests, go to all our honest friends who give honest views regarding us, and even ask our spouse or family about how they see us, yet nothing compares to the knowledge that God has about us. Psalms 139:1-6 gives us an accurate description of how much God knows us.

“O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.”

Not only that, God put in us His Holy Spirit, who helps us in our weakness, interceding for us.

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” (Romans 8:26)

2. He made us

Nothing knows the invention better than the inventor. In our case, it’s God who lovingly, fearfully and wonderfully made us. He knows us inside out, top to bottom.

“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.” (Psalms 139:13-16)

3. He thinks of you all the time

Have you ever felt so treasured by someone? If you have, multiply that more than a million times — apparently, that’s how much God treasures you. He sent Christ to save you, simply because He loves you (see John 3:16). In fact, God can’t stop thinking of you, as much as He does all men in the world.

“How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.” (Psalms 139:17-18)
