Being a missionary on foreign soil does not come without any risks, and Jill Duggar and her husband Derick Dillard from “Counting On” are aware of what their work in Central America truly entails.

“It’s risky here — we stand out as Americans, so definitely we’re higher risk,” Jill said during the Aug. 30 episode of the show, according to Us Magazine. “You have to talk about things that probably a lot of couples wouldn’t talk about back in the States.”

With the number of crimes happening in El Salvador, the Dillard couple have to figure out what they will do should something bad happen to one of them. As difficult as those grim conversations might be, Jill and Derick are hanging tough for the sake of their family.

“We’ve been married almost two years — we have a little baby,” Jill said. “If we were back in the States, we wouldn’t be talking about, ‘Now if you die, what am I supposed to do from there? If you don’t come home after you are supposed to [at] this hour, then what do I do?’ It’s hard to talk about those things, but it’s also good for us to [know] like, if something happened, what I’m supposed to do.”

However, Derick says working on their Christian ministry is not as bad as it sounds. In fact, he wouldn’t trade their life there now for anything in the world.

“I do love my life here,” said Derick. “I think there’s not another place in the world I’d rather be right now, but there’s obviously going to be times when I’m going to miss my life in America.”

For now, the Dillards are enjoying a short break from their ministry and have been reunited with their loved ones in the United States. “Even while we are in the United States we will continue to work on behalf of the ministry and the work in Central America will continue,” the Dillards assured on their blog.
