The truth is not often pretty, but XXX Church — an online ministry dedicated to helping people with porn and sex addictions — told addicts that they have to bravely confront their demons.

As ugly and disgusting as the truth might be, Paul Robinson wrote in the XXX Church website that addicts should feel free to get angry or cry about their imperfections. But they should never lie about them because dishonesty is the only thing that's keeping them stuck in their addictions.

"The important thing is not to run and hide from that feeling," he said. "You see, with porn, we cover up with words because we don't want people to think we're bad. At the same time and with the same breath, we are reaching out for help."

Robinson said those who try to cover up their addictions are like people who are stuck in a burning building crying out for help but then telling their rescuers, "It's not really that hot, I'm fine. When you have a chance throw a ladder up here, I'd appreciate it, but don't go to any bother."

The truth is, Robinson said addicts don't want other people to look down on them, so they try to hide their flaws. But he said people should stop pretending because their pretences will not get them anywhere.

"We say we're free, yet we don't feel free enough to plainly explain what we're experiencing. We say we're loved and accepted as we are, but we don't experience that, which is why we water it down to gauge a reaction first. We say we don't want to look at porn every day, however….we look at porn every day," he said.

Robinson urged addicts not to be afraid because no one is going to reject them. And once they come clean about their addictions, they'll create a sense of relief and they will eventually get to the root of their struggle with lust online.
