Comedian Chelsea Handler keeps sticking up for Planned Parenthood.
Praising the abortion chain has become a favorite project of many female celebrities, as U.S. Congress moves to defund it.
Planned Parenthood does more abortions than any other group in the U.S. Last week, it refused to give up its abortion work and focus on providing other health care services. Planned Parenthood leaders rejected a proposition from President Donald Trump that would have allowed it to continue receiving tax dollars as long as it stopped doing abortions.
While Planned Parenthood centers its work around abortions, it tries to convince the public that its non-abortion services are essential to women’s health care in America, and it needs taxpayer funding to continue providing them. Handler and its other celebrity supporters frequently repeat the talking point.
On Twitter Friday, Handler claimed that defunding the abortion group could mean an end to “safe sex.”
Just so we’re clear: Trump wants to repeal Obamacare and defund planned parenthood, so millions have no tools to provide safe sex options.

By this, Handler presumably means contraception. But, according to the new Congressional bill to defund Planned Parenthood, funds that used to go to the abortion group would be redirected to community health clinics that provide more comprehensive health services than Planned Parenthood. They outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities by about 20 to one. The only thing that they do not provide is abortions.
Last week, Republicans in Congress released the American Health Care Act. Their plan to repeal Obamacare includes provisions that would revoke funding for Planned Parenthood.
Under the legislation, there is a provision in the bill that prohibits states from using “direct spending” on “prohibited entities” with federal funds allocated from the legislation; and those entities include any entity that “provides for abortions.” That means the nation’s biggest abortion corporation — Planned Parenthood.
President Trump promised to sign a bill that would defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business as long as it continues to kill unborn babies in abortions.
Recent polls also indicate Americans support the defunding efforts. New polling found 56 percent of Americans in battleground states want Planned Parenthood defunded.
