Senate Passes Budget Resolution That’s a Precursor to Defunding Planned Parenthood

Yesterday, the U.S. Senate took the first step in paving the way for a vote on defunding the Planned Parenthood abortion corporation.

The Senate approved on a virtual party-line vote a budget resolution bill. This repeal resolution is the first step in the process to re-direct Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding to legitimate health care entities and repeal Obamacare using the budget reconciliation procedure.

The Senate voted for final passage 51-48 of the 2017 budget resolution (S. Con. Res. 3), which will guide the legislative process to repeal and replace Obamacare as well as defunding the nation’s biggest abortion company. All Republicans, except for Sen. Rand Paul (R.-KY), voted for the resolution.

After the final passage was announced, Sen. David Perdue (R.-Ga.) said he understood that there was more work to do to fix healthcare in America, but it was most important to start.

“Obamacare is collapsing under its own weight,” he said.

“Since President Obama and his Democratic Super Majority crammed this bill through Congress without one Republican vote, we’ve seen premiums and deductibles increase and choices decrease. Many Americans, like me and my wife, had their insurance plans cancelled altogether,” he said.

“The American people are fed-up and went to their polling booths in November to express their outrage,” he said.

Senator Bob Corke, a member of the Senate Budget Committee, said he was excited to vote for the bill because he wants Obamacare repealed.

“The Affordable Care Act has led to high premiums, rising out-of-pocket costs, and reduced choice across the Volunteer State, and I am pleased Congress has initiated the repeal and replace process,” said Corker.

SIGN THE PETITION! Congress Must De-Fund Planned Parenthood Immediately

Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser told LifeNews.com: “We urge Congress to swiftly pass the budget resolution so they can pass a reconciliation bill that re-directs abortion giant Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding to community health centers.

She added: “Community health centers provide the same services Planned Parenthood does, but do not perform abortions or harvest fetal body parts. They far outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities by a 20:1 ratio. Re-directing the abortion giant’s taxpayer funding will fulfill a major pro-life commitment made by the President-elect to end Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding as long as they continue to perform abortions.”

During the campaign, Trump said “I am committed to defunding Planned Parenthood as long as they continue to perform abortions and reallocating their funding to community health centers that provide comprehensive health care for women.”

Earlier in the campaign, Trump specifically promised he would sign a bill as president to de-fund Planned Parenthood. In an interview with David Brody of CBN, Trump made that promise:

David Brody: “As a President Trump, if a bill came to your desk that would defund Planned Parenthood you would support that, you would sign that?”

Donald Trump: “Yes, because as long as they do the abortion I am not for funding Planned Parenthood… As long as they’re involved with abortion, as far as I’m concerned forget it, I wouldn’t fund them regardless. I would defund Planned Parenthood because of their view and the fact of their work on abortion…. I am for defunding Planned Parenthood as long as they are involved with abortion.”
