Just one week after breaking up with her boyfriend, Stephanie Davis discovered that she was pregnant with his child.
Davis, a British soap opera actress who also appeared on the reality show Celebrity Big Brother, reportedly had a troubled relationship with now ex-boyfriend Jeremy McConnell, an Irish model and reality TV star.
This week, the actress told the British talk show Loose Women that she seriously considered aborting their unborn child after the break-up, but she just couldn’t go through with it.

While she insisted she couldn’t wait to be a mum and the baby had “saved” her, Steph did confess in a moment of weakness she had thought about a termination.
Claiming she had broken down after getting “a certain few phone calls” from her ex and didn’t know if she was strong enough to carry on, explaining during the emotional interview: “I was on my hands and knees. I couldn’t take it anymore.”
“I thought he was the one to save me from this. I honestly thought this isn’t fair to bring in a baby to something toxic.”
Davis rejected her thoughts about abortion, and now says she is excited for the birth of her child. On Friday, she posted a message on Twitter, saying, “I can’t wait 2 be a mummy & be able to love he/she more than anything.”
Tragically, relationship problems often are factors in women’s decisions to have abortions. A 2009 study in the International Journal of Mental Health Addiction found that one of the top reasons women had abortions was because they did not have a supportive partner.
The study found that women were significantly more likely to abort if they reported that the father of the child cannot be trusted to “watch the child for a week,” “take good care of the child,” “watch the child when the mothers needs to do things,” “does not support the mother’s way of raising the child,” “does not respect the schedule and rules” for the child, etc.
In addition, it found that mothers who were married to the father were significantly more likely to deliver the baby.

Unmarried women have a large percentage of the abortions in the U.S. According to the 2012 Centers for Disease Control report on abortion, unmarried women had 85.3 percent of the abortions that year.
Fortunately, more single moms are finding support for themselves and their babies through pregnancy resource centers and other pro-life organizations. While these organizations cannot replace the role of a father, they can provide physical and emotional support to help pregnant moms and reassure her that she and her baby are not alone.
