Westboro Baptist Church Tweet Gets a “Like”

TOPEKA, KS – Even though they’re against celebration, several members of the infamous Westboro Baptist Church wanted to party like it was 70 AD when they received an email notification that they had actually received a “like” on a tweet.

“To finally get the recognition we deserve; we are elated; what else can I say?” said Deandre Phelps, a member of Westboro Baptist Church. “We have really been focused on upping our social media presence since about 2009. We have fired PR person after PR person trying to find success in the internet and, well to put it frankly, today we found it.”

The “like” was the very first for the WBC twitter account after over 42,000 tweets and 11,000 photos/videos. The twitter account has been active since 2009.

Yet, despite all of their recent success, WBC is determined on staying true to their roots and not letting the success get to their heads. “As big of news at this is I am not going to let it take control and change what we do, you know? It’s so easy to let things like this run your life. But not me. Not us. We are going to keep true to ourselves and remain as repugnant as ever,” commented Deandre Phelps.

The tweet that earned the “like” was one that featured a young baby singing with text from the book of Psalms, and the words “God Is gracious, Merciful, Kind and longsuffering towards those He loves. So Sing His praises & give God the glory!”

In a strange turn of events, a few hours after the email notification of their first like, they received a similar notification stating that the like was removed. It was determined the “like” had come from a 68-year-old man who accidentally clicked on the tweet after thinking he saw a picture of his grand-daughter. WBC was seem later that day picketing outside the mans house.

In unrelated news, Westboro Baptist Church is also looking for a new social media marketing manager.
