Dealing with Abusive Men

Too often we hear of men who are well-thought of in church. They know all of the right phrases, and know when to shed the right tears. They sing with gusto and say “Amen” at the right places in the sermon. But when they go home and are alone with their wives and children, they think only of destruction and murder. They systematically seek to destroy the image of God in their family. They are the king of the castle and smack their loved ones around just to make sure that they remember it. They be..

The National Geographic Transgender Cover Champions Child Abuse And Junk Science

Studies have shown that childhood gender dysphoria does not inevitably continue into adulthood. An overwhelming 77 to 94 percent of gender dysphoric children do not become adults with gender dysphoria. Given this, it’s social, medical, and psychological malpractice to push young children to lop off or sew on body parts and take highly charged cross-sex hormones that can further destabilize their prepubescent bodies and minds, especially when they are highly likely to regret what grown adults pus..

From “Rogue One” to “Empire Strikes Back”: What I watched on my winter vacation

Don’t let the headline mislead you: this isn’t all about “Star Wars.”
As I write this, I’m coming off a very long vacation. On Dec. 23, I left work for two weeks to enjoy the holidays and recuperate from a very busy fall. I go back to work and school tomorrow and, as providence would have it, it’s also shaping up to be a busy week for this blog. For now, I’m enjoying the last few hours of break. It wasn’t the greatest vacation — quite a few stressors made it a bit hectic — but for the first time..

The Micro-Premie Dilemma

Does NICU technology change our pro-life obligations?

Just like when God created the world in Genesis, our first assessment of new life comes down to breath. Moms wait for that telltale cry when a newborn sucks in his first gulp of air. Doctors often measure viability—whether the baby can survive outside the womb—by their ability to breathe.

Back in the 1960s, babies born at 36 weeks or earlier regularly died of respiratory distress syndrome because their lungs were not ready to function on th..

Woman Who Identifies as Man Sues Catholic Hospital for Denying Hysterectomy for Sex Change Purposes

PATERSON, N.J. — A woman who identifies as a man has sued a Catholic hospital for declining to perform a hysterectomy on her for sex change purposes because of the institution’s religious convictions, and is requesting that the courts force the hospital to provide such services.

Jionni Conforti, 33, is suing St. Joseph’s Healthcare System, Inc. under charges of discrimination because of her preferred “sex, non-conformity with sex stereotypes, and gender identity.”

“Following the death of his m..

Final Call (January 6)

Welcome to Final Call, a brief, hand-picked selection of news, articles, videos, and curiosities from the Internet and beyond.

Only a Holy God
I’ve been listening to CityAlight for a couple of years now and have especially appreciated their song Jerusalem, which we’ve added to our repertoire at Grace Fellowship Church. I was thrilled to learn of their new album Only a Holy God and even more thrilled to discover how good it is. CityAlight is associated with St Paul’s Church in Castle Hill, Australia, and sings modern worship and original hymns that are suited to congregational worship. If you’re interested in checking out the new album, perhaps begin with Christ Is Mine Forevermore (the song, lyrics, and chord charts are at the link), then try Saved My Soul, then All My Ways Are Known To You. It’s all free at their site. I think you’ll enjoy it!

Towards Missional Effectiveness: The Mark of Multiplication (Part 6)

Go where people are, make disciples, plant churches.

I’m in a series covering the topic of missional effectiveness. In the previous two posts, I have explained the marks of God’s mission. What I have sought to do is stress the major foci of each mark in an effort to build a visual of the enactment of the message and movement of mission. Today, I’ll cover the missional mark of multiplication.

The Missional Mark of Multiplication Explained (1)

Thus far, I have attempted to outline the missional ..

Thought for the morning of Fri January 6, 2017

Verse”Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” — 1pe 5:7
ThoughtIt is a happy way of soothing sorrow when we can feel-“HE careth for me.” Christian! do not dishonour religion by always wearing a brow of care; come, cast your burden upon your Lord. You are staggering beneath a weight which your Father would not feel. What seems to you a crushing burden, would be to him but as the small dust of the balance. Nothing is so sweet as to
“Lie passive in God's hands,
And know no wil..

Sharing Heaven with Serial Killers

Roy Ratcliff is the pastor who baptized infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

After Dahmer was convicted of 15 murders and sentenced to many lifetimes in prison, Ratcliff began visiting him and sharing the gospel. According to Ratcliff, Dahmer struggled to grasp the depths of God’s grace. It’s not hard to understand why. For someone who committed such atrocious acts, grace must have seemed unattainable. But in a 1994 interview with Stone Phillips, Dahmer said: “I have accepted [Jesus] as my Lo..
