With U.S. Election Day fast approaching, the attacks on Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump are increasing. Tom Ertl, the national director for Christians For Trump, said people are "desperate" to stop Trump from winning.

After a video showing Trump making lewd comments about women was released last month, a lot of "holier than God" Christians either dropped their support for Trump or criticised him further. To address their concerns, Ertl shared a letter addressed to one particular evangelical "Never Trumper" and defended the business magnate from his detractors.

"Lay down your 'sin meter' and look up to see the big picture," Ertl wrote in the letter shared with Charisma News. "We finally have a candidate for president who is taking on the Establishment, the big banks, and multi-national corporations who are destroying our country, and you have your sin meter and microscope out dissecting Donald Trump's life looking for sin."

Ertl recalled the time of Cyrus, King of Persia from 559 to 530 B.C., who was used by God to promote the covenant religion and restoration of Israel. "Never Trumpers" probably wouldn't have approved of Cyrus then because of their "sin meter," since Cyrus' lifestyle was marred by a lot of improper things: multiple wives and concubines, unfair treatment of women, and idol worship, to name a few.

Ertl said "Never Trumpers" would have rejected Cyrus "because the vessel God had chosen in Cyrus was not acceptable to you and your self-styled religious standards." But God called Cyrus "His Anointed," and in turn, Cyrus did a lot of great work for God and His people.

"The difference between God and you is that your standard of holiness gauged by your 'sin meter' automatically disqualifies men for unacceptable behavior. But God is different. God, the great redeemer of sinful men, is not afraid of human sin but delights in taking flawed men, redeeming them for His glory, using them for His purpose and plan in the earth," he said.
