How you can be Spirit-empowered in the workplace

When do you experience the power of the Holy Spirit? Is it simply when you are worshipping Him through song? So many Christians feel that the Holy Spirit comes only when hands are lifted, but the reality is that the Holy Spirit can appear, even during times when the hands are busy working.

We live in a day and age where the move of God can be contained within the four walls of a church sanctuary. We experience God’s presence when we are in the “holy of holies” with a live band playing our favourite worship song against the backdrop of extravagant lights and digital displays. But the moment people walk out of a sanctuary, they can think the Spirit of God doesn’t go with them. So many believe that God’s presence does not go with them to their homes, campuses and even offices.

2 Corinthians 3:16-17 says this: “But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” What veil does Paul refer to here?

In Old Testament times, there used to be a room within the temple courts called the inner room, which was said to be the only place in all the earth where God’s presence would dwell. That veil was torn when Jesus laid His life down for us on the cross. That now signifies that God’s presence is everywhere. I say that again with emphasis – EVERYWHERE. And that includes your office.

You can experience the power of God through His Spirit in the office or wherever your workplace is. In Acts 1:8, Jesus declares, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” We receive the power of God to the ends of the earth, your workplace included.

As a result, we can live Spirit-empowered lives at work. The same Holy Spirit that infills you in extravagant worship is the same Spirit that will infill you when you are doing work for the Lord. As a result of that, God brings a certain level of power, wisdom, strength, passion and desire that enables us to do greater work than we ever could on our own.

I’l go as far as to say this: God desires that we go back to our offices this week and every succeeding week empowered with His Spirit so that we can be witnesses – reflections of His strength and ability. Be empowered by the Holy Spirit at work and it will allow you to work in a way you’ve never worked before.
