Luke 10:27 tells us, “…’You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’ (NLT).” Sadly though, many Christians, if not most, tend to leave out the “mind” portion of this verse. They wrongfully think there should be no intellect in Christianity. “Leave the theology to those in the ‘Ivory Towers.’” Well, this should not be the case.
In addition, we often hear Christians..

A few days ago I was reading about the plans that are underway for the ‘Jeddah Tower’ in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. At 3307 feet, it will be a gateway to Mecca and the tallest building in the world. It will also be a testament to the might and prosperity of the Arabian Gulf. For its Arab proponents, such a tower heralds the arrival of a new and powerful civilization. New York’s Empire State Building was constructed in 1931 to mark the arrival of the United States upon the international commercial scene. Shanghai’s 2008 World Financial Center welcomed the People’s Republic onto that same scene. And Dubai’s 2010 Burj Khalifa hailed the ascendancy of the United Arab Emirates as a new hub of global capitalism.

In one sense these great buildings are fitting testaments to the might of civilizations. But in another sense they are testaments to human folly. A long time ago, the people..

A reader recently asked me a thoughtful question about something I posted on Facebook that used the term “racial profiling.” As a police officer, he was wondering what I meant by that, and whether I was referring specifically to profiling by law enforcement.

This is an important question, so I will give it a thorough answer.

I Googled “racial profiling” and this is what came up first: “the use of race or ethnicity as grounds for suspecting someone of having committed an offense.” That’s what I m..

“We are to be in the world but not of the world.” This is a phrase that has been quoted ad nauseam and usually by preachers who even preface it with, “The Bible says.” But, does it? You might be surprised to learn the phrase “we are to be in the world but not of the world” is not a verse found in Scripture. While it is true that there are a several passages that seem to portray the concept, it is also true that those using the phrase are often not explaining it as it was intended. They create th..

50 people at an Orlando nightclub were targeted, plainly, because of their practice of homosexuality. Omar Mateen reportedly committed himself to ISIS prior to the attack as well.
Yet what will come of this debacle will be the strong-armed, politically savvy propaganda against guns by the Left, and the grandiose, sweeping, anti-Muslim sentiment from the Right. Most on either side are simply grand-staging a tragedy in order to push a political ideology that will do little to actively treat the ro..

Right now, even as I write this, the next mass shooter is noticing the media attention being given to the current one. The wheels are turning in his mind as he sees how everyone is dissecting the current shooter’s motives and wondering how a crime so terrible could have happened. He is thinking to himself: “Huh. This guy sure got worldwide attention by killing all these people. He brought attention to his cause too. I bet if I killed a bunch of people then everyone would pay attention to me too.”

And with reasoning like this, the next mass shooter will start to put his plan into practice. He will pick his weapon(s) and perhaps will get some weapons training. He will select a target – a church, a school, a summer camp, a business park, a McDonald’s. Perhaps he will think for a while about not doing it. After all, to do the horrific deed that he is contemplating will be to sacrifice the rest of his life. But the lure of the worldwide media attention will be too great. And so, not too man..

Do you struggle with insecurities or low self-esteem? I think we all do, at least at times. The problem Christianity is facing today regarding this issue is unbiblical preaching on how to deal with insecurity. So many preachers today are really nothing more than motivational speakers. All they try to do is make everyone “feel good” about himself or herself. Some don’t even use Scripture, or at the very least just throw in a couple verses to give the appearance of preaching when all they are real..

In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, one of the children asks Mr. and Mrs. Beaver about Aslan the Lion, who is a figure of Christ:
“Is Aslan quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion.”
“That you will dearie, and no mistake,” said Mrs. Beaver. “If there’s anyone who can appear before Aslan without their knees knocking, they’re either braver than most or just plain silly.”
“Then he isn’t safe?” said Lucy.
“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? W..

“And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house he asked them, ‘What were you discussing on the way?’ But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, ‘If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.’” Mark 9:33-35

In my book Why ProLife? I say that every argument for abortion which appeals to a woman’s inconvenience, stress, and financial hardship can be made just as persuasively about her two-month-old, her two-year-old, her teenager, her husband, or her parents. In many cases older children are more expensive and place greater demands on their mother than an unborn child.

People immediately recognize those arguments as invalid when it comes to killing older children. So why not the unborn? After all, a ..
