A scene from the new movie, Risen, starring Joseph Fiennes.

There are films that are entertaining. There are films that are soul-stirring. And there are films that are faithful to the source material (when the source material is the Bible, this third category becomes an important one for many believers). It is rare to experience a film that checks one or two of these boxes, let alone all three. Risen, starring Joseph Fiennes and opening in theaters February 19, is a film that definitively inhabi..

Give thanks in all circumstances…

How?

My daughter is in Afghanistan.
I am fighting diabetes.
I have no job.
My son is doing drugs.
My child has died.
My marriage is falling apart.
I'm depressed.
My bank account is overdrawn.
I'm tired of being sick and tired.
Circumstances affect each of us differently. It is easier to say, “give thanks in all circumstances” than to actually do it. Especially, if the person saying it has never gone through troubled times.
In this case, the one saying it knew what he was talking about exactly. Paul, an Apostle of Jesus, had his moments in the suffering department.
Flogged 5 times with the Jews 39 lashes…
Beaten by Roman rods 3 times…
Betrayed by those who pretended to be friends…
Pummeled with rocks…
Many sleepless nights and missed meals…
Paul said, “And that's the half of it, when you throw in the daily pressures and anxieties of all the churches” (1 Corinthians 11:28 MSG).
No doubt, circumstances can make life difficult ..

“I think, therefore I am.”

René Descartes penned this popular line in his 1637 treatise, Discourse on the Method, and it’s a good summary of the book itself. Heralding the importance of scientific discoveries and the necessity of doubting one’s own view of the world, Descartes’s work is often considered the first domino to fall in what is now called the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment, with its explosion of scientific discoveries and philosophical arguments, had one task:..

I’m a believer—a Christian. I’m a “lifer” and an insider. I was born into a Christian home. I have Christian parents. I’ve gone to church all my life.

I’m also a doubter.

Over the years I’ve had many troubling questions: How do I know God exists? Can I be sure Christianity is right? How can there be an all-loving and all-powerful God when there is so much evil in the world? Can I really trust that the Bible is true?

For most of my life I’ve walked in a place of doubt-plagued faith. And while ..

**(Before we start reading, I was actually writing a chapter in my new book, “The Runaway Bride” and I titled the chapter “The Insecure Bride.” I felt led by the Lord to share a snippet of the chapter with you. Note that this isn't the entire chapter, but you can find the rest of it on June 5, 2015 on this site when it goes live! :))**

One of satans biggest weapons is doubt. Satan loves for us to question who we are and how we measure up to others (Ephesians 2:1-2; Ephesians 6:12; 1 Samuel ..

This area has just been heavy on my heart so I wanted to remind those of you who are going through some hard times that God has not forgotten about you.

Yes, you.

In the world of social media, technology and TV, it's so easy to glamorize what everybody else is doing while thinking, Lord, have you forgotten about me? Have you abandoned me?

No, God hasn't abandoned you. But, He is disciplining you. And you have a choice. You can either press through this test and mature in your walk wit..

Our small group is doing a Bible study on Hebrews and this week was Hebrews 11, the faith chapter. Most people turn to this chapter when they’re looking for bible verse about faith. Just the first verse in Hebrews chapter 11 gives us a great definition to help us understand the answer to the question, what is faith?

Now faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see. – Hebrews 11:1
