Key Thought
This is exactly the question we need to ask ourselves. “I’m not the one, am I?” Pride should never be a part of our spiritual character, because we will fail and fall. Instead, we need to examine ourselves and put ourselves to the test, but then take those results back to the Lord and pray for his power and grace.
Prayer
O Father, I know that I cannot be the person I want to be without your help, power, and presence. Fill me and empower me with your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Related Scriptures
So I bow in prayer before the Father. Every family in heaven and on earth gets its true name from him. I ask the Father with his great glory to give you the power to be strong in your spirits. He will give you that strength through his Spirit. I pray that Christ will live in your hearts because of your faith. I pray that your life will be strong in love and be built on love. And I pray that you and all God’s holy people will have the power to understand the greatness of Christ’s love. I pray that you can understand how wide and how long and how high and how deep that love is. Christ’s love is greater than any person can ever know. But I pray that you will be able to know that love. Then you can be filled with the fullness of God. With God’s power working in us, God can do much, much more than anything we can ask or think of. To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus for all time, forever and ever. Amen.
— Ephesians 3:14-21
So I have learned this rule: When I want to do good, evil is there with me. In my mind, I am happy with God’s law. But I see another law working in my body. That law makes war against the law that my mind accepts. That other law working in my body is the law of sin, and that law makes me its prisoner. This is terrible! Who will save me from this body that brings me death? God {will save me}! I thank him {for his salvation} through Jesus Christ our Lord! So in my mind I am a slave to God’s law. But in my sinful self I am a slave to the law of sin.
— Romans 7:21-25
Then the Lord (Jesus) turned and looked into Peter’s eyes. And Peter remembered what the Lord had said: “Before the rooster crows in the morning, you will say three times that you don’t know me.”
