The Human Tragedy of the Divine Grace – Mark 14:21

Key Passage

“The Son of Man will go {and die}. The Scriptures say this will happen. But it will be very bad for the person who gives the Son of Man {to be killed}. It would be better for that person if he were never born.”

Key Thought

While God planned for Jesus’ death to be the atoning sacrifice for sin and while it was God’s will that Jesus go to the Cross, this does not mitigate the sin of those who orchestrated his murder. Both God’s plan and the plot of evil men placed Jesus on the Cross. The one betraying Jesus will have to face judgment for what he has done.

Prayer

Father, may I never, ever outlive my love and loyalty to you and your Son. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Related Scriptures

The Jewish leaders answered, “We have a law that says he must die, because he said that he is the Son of God.” When Pilate heard this, he was more afraid. Pilate went back inside the palace. He asked Jesus, “Where are you from?” But Jesus did not answer him. Pilate said, “You refuse to speak to me? Remember, I have the power to make you free. I also have the power to kill you on a cross.” Jesus answered, “The only power you have over me is the power given to you by God. So the man who gave me to you is guilty of a greater sin.”
John 19:7-11

This teaching is true: If we died with him (Jesus), then we will also live with him. If we accept suffering, then we will also rule with him. If we refuse to accept him, then he will refuse to accept us. If we are not faithful, he will still be faithful, because he cannot be false to himself.
2 Timothy 2:11-13

The people that live now are living in a sinful and evil time. If any person is ashamed of me and my teaching, then I will be ashamed of that person. I will be ashamed of that person at the time I come with the glory of my Father and the holy angels.”
Mark 8:38
