Low-Fat Yoghurt, Granola Bars and the 8 Other Foods This Nutritionist Wouldn’t Eat Even If You Paid Her

Debunking health food myths, London nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert says many of the food products that most consumers would consider "healthy" are actually quite the opposite.

Lambert cites at least 10 food items which she says she would never buy, saying these are the foods that no self-respecting nutritionist would dare eat, the Daily Mail reported.

Her list of don't-eat foods includes low-fat yoghurt, Granola bars, cereals, fruit juice, breakfast biscuits, agave syrup, non-organic milk, protein bars, instant noodles, and tomato ketchup.

Lambert says although low-fat yoghurts are often marketed as healthy options, they contain a shocking amount of sugar.


The same is true with Granola bars. Lambert says the sugar content of these so-called healthy snack bars "is enough to send your hunger into overdrive."

Lambert says oat-based cereals are okay, but those marketed as weight loss inducers are not really that since these "cereals lack protein, have added sugar and chemicals, use-refined carbohydrates and, coupled with milk, it's a sugar fest first thing in the morning."

Fruit juices are also no-no food items for Lambert who describes them as "little more than fruit-flavoured sugar water."

Breakfast biscuits marketed as an alternative to energy bars are also wrongly labelled as "healthy" option, she says, noting that these biscuits often have added sweeteners.

Lambert says agape syrup—which is made from the pulp of the cactus leaf—is also not a healthy food option as advertised since it has high fructose content, often as high as 90 percent.

She also considers protein bars with artificial sweeteners as unhealthy food since their sucralose content "raises blood sugar levels … and contributes to weight gain."

With regards to instant noodles, Lambert says this food can "lead to heart disease, diabetes, or a stroke."

She says she would also never eat tomato ketchup since it contains four grams of sugar and 190 milligrams of sodium per tablespoon.
