Planned Parenthood CEO Opposes Paid Maternity Leave for Women: It’s a “Half-Baked Proposal”

In her latest attack on presidential candidate Donald Trump, Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards bashed his plan to offer women paid maternity leave.

Hillary Clinton is Planned Parenthood’s champion, and the abortion group is campaigning hard for her. And while Trump has made some questionable statements about abortion in the past, his new pro-life proposals are frightening abortion activists.

This week, Cosmopolitan gave Richards an outlet to criticize Trump’s recently announced plan for paid maternity leave. In the same breath, Richards praised Clinton’s promises to expand abortion, if elected.

Abortion activists like Richards often try to paint pro-life Republicans as hypocrites because some do not support government programs and mandates, such as paid maternity leave. Abortion activists cannot do that with Trump, so they had to find another way to attack him.

Richards wrote: “[Trump’s] half-baked proposal on maternity leave only applies to women who have given birth. This proposal, like his whole campaign, leaves out an entire swath of people in America who don’t fit his narrow version of what makes a family. It doesn’t respect the needs of fathers, or adoptive or fostering parents, and continues the myth of a 1950s world where women take care of children and men work.”

In typical, campaign-style rhetoric, Richards blasted Trump for using the maternity leave plan to “pander” to women voters because “he can’t come close to the lifetime of work Hillary Clinton has done to help women and families.”

She also attacked Trump for vowing to fight for the rights of unborn babies by appointing U.S. Supreme Court justices who will overturn Roe v. Wade and by de-funding Planned Parenthood as long as it continues to do abortions.

Outrageously, Richards also claimed that Trump’s pro-life policies would lead to “literally killing” women.

“To see how Trump’s policies would play out in real life, we need look no further than my home state of Texas,” Richards wrote. “Women in Texas face barriers to care [abortion], some of which are insurmountable, and it is literally killing them.”

As evidence, she cited a new report from Texas that showed maternal mortality rates increasing between 2010 and 2012. She blamed the uptick in deaths on Texas pro-life laws, even though the maternal death rate began climbing before the pro-life laws went into effect.

Later, the abortion chain CEO praised Clinton again and claimed that she would be “the strongest, most qualified candidate in history.”

Clinton’s proposed abortion policies would give Planned Parenthood exactly what it wants – more abortion business, fewer regulations and more of our tax dollars. Planned Parenthood has found its champion in Clinton, who promised them that she would try to repeal the Hyde Amendment and force taxpayers to fund abortions.

The abortion giant also know that the next president could have the chance to nominate up to four U.S. Supreme Court justices – and sway the political leanings of the court for decades. Clinton promised to nominate U.S. Supreme Court justices who will ensure that Roe v. Wade and abortion on demand up until birth remain the law of the land for years to come.

Trump, on the other hand, promised to appoint pro-life justices who will overturn Roe v. Wade. Recently, Trump announced a list of 11 potential Supreme Court nominees — a list pro-life and conservative groups praised for having potential judges who would be Constitutionalist.

Trump also specifically promised he would sign a bill as president to de-fund Planned Parenthood. In a letter released earlier in September, Trump said he is “committed to defunding” the abortion giant.
