LONDON —
A pastor in the U.K. who was conceived in rape is expressing his thankfulness for his mother after she refused abortion and chose to rather be kicked out of the house rather than end the life of her child.

“It seems to me that God’s been saving my life even before I was born,” Gary Moore said in a testimonial posted by the Christian Institute on July 6.

Moore’s mother was 17 when she was forcefully raped in the back of a car. When she discovered that she was pregnant, he parents urged her to abort, but she refused. Her refusal resulted in being kicked out of the house.

“She made the decision to keep me, which must have been incredibly tough for her when the other option was to have me abortion and to stay at home,” Moore remarked.

Moore’s mother moved away and raised her son with love.

“The overall impression that I had from her was that I was loved and cherished no matter what I did,” he recalled. “That was one of those pillars of life that I knew she loved me no matter what.”

Moore said that wasn’t until his rebellious teenage years that he learned about the circumstances surrounding his conception and that his mother refused to end his life. At times, he would notice his mother looking intently at him, but he never knew why.

“From that point onward, my who attitude changed toward her because I thought, ‘Wow, what a great mom that she actually decided to keep me despite all the odds, all the stuff that had gone on—that she loved me so much that no matter what, she was going to keep me,’” he recalled.

Moore says that he doesn’t take for granted the gift of life that his mother gave him.

“I have lived such a fulfilled life coming from what some people would class as very, very poor beginnings,” Moore stated. “I’ve been a soldier. I’ve been in the French foreign legion. I’ve been to … all different countries around the world.”

“And I can look back over my life and think, ‘If I had been aborted, none of these things would have happened,’” he said.

Moore says that he would encourage other women who are in the same circumstance as his mother to let their child live.

“Have the baby,” he said. “That little child, boy or girl, is going to have a life full of dreams, be able to sing, laugh, love.”

“Let’s give that child the real gift of life,” Moore stated, “because it’s worth it.”
