Saeed Abedini condemns US, EU and UN failure to stop executions in Iran

Saeed Abedini, the Christian pastor who was held in Iran’s notorious Evin prison on charges of undermining state security, has condemned world leaders for not speaking out against executions carried out by the Iranian regime.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Abedini wote: “Every Wednesday in Rajaeeshar prison [in] which I was [held] for more than 2 years Islamic Republic of Iran executes tens of people by hanging them.

“The saddest part… is UN, EU and US don’t have any active plan to STOP this executions [sic]”.

He accused them of giving money to Iran, despite “knowing about all these systematic executions for years and years”.

“Let’s Pray for big changes in Middle East that just comes with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” he urged.

Abedini shared photos of 12 prisoners who were executed last week, noting that at least one of them was a Christian, named Ali Asadi.

Iranian-born but with duel US-Iranian citizenship, Abedini was arrested in July 2012. He was found guilty the following January of having “undermined the Iranian government by creating a network of Christian house churches and… attempting to sway Iranian youth away from Islam”. Originally held in the notorious Evin prison, he was moved to Rajai Shahr prison later in 2013.

He was freed as part of a prisoner swap on January 16 this year following a high-profile campaign for his release.

However, since his release Abedini has been embroiled in controversy after it transpired his wife Naghmeh had filed for separation and accused him of abuse.

In an email to friends and supporters in late 2015, Naghmeh described “physical, emotional, psychological and sexual” abuse by her husband, who she said was addicted to pornography.
