Saeed Abedini, the Christian pastor who was held in Iran's notorious Evin prison on charges of undermining state security, has condemned world leaders for not speaking out against executions carried out by the Iranian regime.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A compromise has been reached in a controversial California bill that criminalized undercover filming at abortion facilities, as well as the publication of such material.

This year I have been participating in the 2016 Reading Challenge, a fun way to increase and diversify your reading through another year. I took the challenge and set this year’s goal at 104 books. However, because so much of my reading has to go toward reviewing books that are recently published and of interest to Christians (both for reviews published here and in WORLD magazine), I decided to pick from all over the list rather than working through it in order. What follows are the books I completed in July and August and, in parentheses, the reading challenge category they fulfill. Below that is the complete list of categories I need to cover.

China Releases Christian Detainees Ahead of G20 Summit

WENZHOU, Zhejiang (China Aid) — Five Christian detainees in China’s coastal Zhejiang were suddenly released on Aug. 28 after four months in prison. Local sources believe the release came because of a government order in preparation for the upcoming G20 summit meeting in Hangzhou.
